The Story Behind the Painting
I worked on this portrait during the war - under the sounds of explosions and constant air raid alerts. I painted almost non-stop to finish it before leaving for New York.
Before New Life
April – May 2024
The portrait shows Dasha with her three-year-old daughter Lera, expecting her second child. By the time the painting was completed, her son had already been born, and in the final photos, she was holding him in her arms.
This work became a reflection of a quiet but powerful moment - the transition from expectation to new life.
